Activists protest against a Bollywood film Veer in New Delhi

Bollwood actor Salman Khan's just released Hindi film 'Veer' continues to stir controversy. Scores of activists belonging to Rajput community hit the streets in New Delhi, shouting slogans and burnt effigies of Khan. The Rajputs are known for their formidable valor. Protestors claimed that the film portrays them negatively and contains derogatory remarks about their community. "We are protesting against Salman Khan's film 'Veer' in which the Rajputs have been insulted and negative comments have been made against them. It is in our history, that whenever there was difficulty in the country, the Rajputs always stood up," said Babu Ram Rajput, a protestor. "This is why today we burnt an effigy of Salman Khan. We plan to ask the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni to stop screening of this film across the country and to arrest the director and Salman Khan," he added. Demonstrations have already taken place where several hundred youth vandalised a multiplex cinema on January 30. The controversy surrounding 'Veer' has been going on since its shooting began. The movie was shot last year on location at the 418-year-old Amber Fort in Jaipur. Several complaints were filed against Khan for shooting at the heritage site and filming was delayed following the collapse of a fort wall, which injured 15 people.
