26/11 mastermind Saeed placed under house arrest | Mumbai terror attacks mastermind and chief of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Hafiz Saeed, has been placed under house arrest. The Pakistani authorities have also
barred him from leading Eid prayers. According to Geo News, a police party was
deputed outside his residence in the Johar Town area here late on Sunday night,
restricting his movement. A senior police official said restrictions have been
put on his movement and that he has been barred from leading Eid prayers at the
Gaddafi stadium. Saeed's house arrest comes three days after police in Faisalabad
registered two FIRs under the Anti-Terrorism Act for inciting people to wage jihad.
India's Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, reacting to reports of Saeed's house
arrest, said in Chennai that Pakistan should interrogate the LeT founder for the
Mumbai attacks as all the evidence against him is on its soil. "My demand is that
now that he has been arrested he should be interrogated on the 26/11 incidents.
His role in the 26/11 attacks must be investigated," he said. "Evidence is in
Pakistani soil. When Pakistan says give us evidence, evidence is not on Indian
soil, all the evidence against Hafiz Saeed is on Pakistani soil," Chidambaram
added. Saeed was placed under house arrest in December last year after the UN
Security Council declared the JuD a terrorist organisation. He was freed on the
orders of the Lahore High Court in June this year. |
