Indians happy 'Mountbatten-Nehru' film under check | Indian cultural leaders are applauding a decision by the country's film officials to halt Cate Blanchett's new film about Lady Mountbatten's alleged affair with the
country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, so that they can scrutinise the
script. The Oscar winner will reportedly play Lady Mountbatten in the film. Top
Indian officials think that the project, partly based on a memoir by Mountbatten's
daughter Pamela, is "delicate". They want to check the script to make sure that
it's respectful towards the wife of the former Indian Viceroy. Indo-American statesman
Rajan Zed has welcomed the caution. "While we welcome Hollywood attempts to show
India's history on the big screen, we'd urge the filmmakers to portray India's
historical events authentically," Contactmusic quoted Zed as saying. "We'd ask
them not to re-imagine India's history just for mercantile greed," Zed added.
The film is set to be released in 2011. |
