On Friday, Gurung was
killed with a Khukri (a local curved knife) allegedly by GJM activists. According
to a senior police official here, conspiracy charges have been leveled against
other leaders too in the F.I.R.. Besides the two GJM leaders, the Police have
also levelled charges of conspiracy against Gurung's wife Asha, Gorkha Nari Mukti
Morcha chief, Press and Publicity Secretary of the outfit, Harka Bahadur Chettri,
Vice-President Amar Lama and GJM police wing GLP's 'commandant' Ramesh Aley in
its FIR filed at Darjeeling police station, Inspector General, North Bengal, K.
L. Tamta informed media persons on Sunday. Declining to reveal the names, Mr.
Tamta said seven others have been named in the FIR for murder. On Saturday, Police
had said that 45 people have been arrested in connection with Friday's killing
of All India Gorkha League President Tamang even while they carried on their search
for GJM youth leader Dinesh Gurung, who is the alleged mastermind of the killing.
Police seized a mobile phone from the spot, a vital clue as it purportedly contained
the recording of the voice of a top GJM leader just before the stabbing of Tamang,
Mr. Tamta added. GJM leader Bimal Gurung, meanwhile, has demanded an inquiry by
the Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI ) into Tamang's killing, GJM Assistant
General Secretary Benoy Tamang said. Gurung said that the IG North Bengal had
declared that the GJM was involved in the killing even before conducting an investigation
and therefore a CBI inquiry was needed to establish the truth. |
