Sarosh Homi Kapadia appointed as new Chief Justice of India | Supreme Court Justice Sarosh Homi Kapadia has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of India (CJI). He will assume charge May 12. Kapadia takes over
from Justice K.G. Balakrishnan. "In exercise of the powers conferred by clause
(2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, President Pratibha Patil is pleased
to appoint Justice Kapadia to be the Chief Justice of India with effect from May
12," a press release from the ministry of law and justice stated. Kapadia was
appointed as Chief Justice of the Uttaranchal High Court on October 5, 2003. Later,
he was elevated to the Bench of the Supreme Court of India on December 18, 2003. |
