Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has reiterated that his country's 'democratic' government is fully committed to ensure nuclear security, adding that it is working with India on several confidence building measures in order to address all pending issues between both the countries. Interacting with media persons during a dinner hosted by US President Barack Obama, Gilani said: "More than ever before, the two nations (India-Pakistan) need to hold a sustained dialogue to address all issues." Commenting on the international community's concerns over impending threat to country's nuclear establishments posed by extremist organisations such as the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, Gilani said Islamabad has 'put in place multi-layered mechanisms and processes' to safeguard its strategic assets, The Daily Times reports. Earlier, speaking on the second and concluding day of the nuclear security summit, Obama warned that that the risk of nuclear weapons falling into the extremist hands persists as a result of which the risk of nuclear attacks had increased. Obama said that even though the threat of nuclear war between nations has decreased, terrorist groups like Al Qaeda are working to acquire nuclear materials. "Terrorist networks such as Al Qaeda have tried to acquire the material for a nuclear weapon, and if they ever succeed, they would surely use it. Were they to do so, it would be a catastrophe for the world," he warned. Obama also urged the international community to take joint action against nuclear terrorism and secure or destroy vulnerable stockpiles of nuclear materials.
