Karkardooma Court grants bail to Sajjan Kumar in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case | Congress leader Sajjan Kumar was on Wednesday granted bail by the Karkardooma Court in connection with cases registered against him in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. All the other nine accused were also granted
bail. The next hearing of the case has been kept for March 20. Sajjan Kumar, who
has been missing for the past one-month, surrendered before the Karkardooma Court
this morning. Kumar was absconding after two non-bailable warrants were issued
against him in the case. The Delhi High Court, however, granted Sajjan Kumar,
bail on February 26 in connection with the two cases registered against him. The
Delhi Police had on February 25 suspended Kumar's personal security officer (PSO)
after he informed his seniors that Kumar was 'missing'. The PSO, Constable Ram
Niroha, reportedly approached his seniors at Delhi Police's security wing on February
19. The Karkardooma Court had on February 23 issued a fresh non-bailable warrant
against Kumar and slammed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for its failure
to arrest Kumar and others accused in the case. The CBI had on January 13 charge-sheeted
Kumar and others in the two cases accusing them of making provocative speeches,
leading to the killing of 12 persons in the riots that followed the assassination
of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.
