Pune Blast: CBI forensic team being air-lifted from New Delhi, says Union Home Secretary | Union Home Secretary G.K.Pillai on Saturday said that a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) forensic team will be air-lifted from New Delhi to assist the investigations in the bomb blast occurred at the German Bakery here. Briefing the mediapersons after
a high-level meeting with intelligence and Home Ministry officials, the Union
Home Secretary Pillai, said: ”According to information from the police and
intelligence
sources, a bomb blast occurred at German Bakery in Pune at around 7.30 p.m. It
appears an unidentified bag was noticed in German Bakery by one of its waiter
and attended it and tried to open it when the bomb blasted. “ Maharashtra state
police, Anti Terror Squad (ATS) and forensic experts have already reached the
scene and conducting investigations. A CBI forensic team will be air lifted from
Delhi to assist the investigations,” Pillai informed. “Once the forensic investigations
are complete, we can say on the people involved in that,” he said. “One foreign
is dead and one is injured. The nationality of others is yet to be confirmed,”
Pillai added. “It may be recalled that Osho Ashram which is barely 200 mts from
the sight of the bomb blast is one of the places surveyed by Lashkar operative
David Headley,” Pillai pointed out. On Oct.10, 2009, the Home Ministry had
informed
the Maharashtra government about the sites Reece by terror suspect David Headley.
“According to the information received so far from State police eight people were
dead and 32 were injured, Pillai added. “Home Minister P. Chidambaram is
monitoring
the situation from Tamil Nadu and position will be reviewed timely,” Pillai informed.
Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has issued an advisory to people across the country.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an advisory to the people of the country
not to touch any unidentified bags/ materials and inform the nearest police station
/control room about such items,” Pillai stated. |
