Pak needs to correct strategic depth in Afghanistan for good ties with India | Pakistan would need to correct its strategic depth in Afghanistan to facilitate good relations with India, says a Daily Times report. According
to the report, the Pakistani security establishment should learn from past experience,
which suggests "it cannot have peace on its western border (Afghanistan) without
having normal - if not good - working relationship with its neighbour on the eastern
border (India)." The report further goes on to say that New Delhi's offer of talks,
which Islamabad has accepted, "may be a belated realisation that wars and hostilities
do not create trust but annihilation of social structures." It says Afghanistan
has witnessed destruction in totality, and warns that Pakistan is treading on
a similar path quite fast. It calls on Islamabad to take rationale measures to
prevent the whole region from suffering. "Till the guns in Kashmir are not silenced,
there could be no peace in Afghanistan either," the Daily Times says. Pakistan,
it says, is for all practical purpose, a security state, and its policy on Afghanistan
has been defeatist in nature. Strategically, it has lost over 2,200 officers and
jawans of the army with over 6,000 injured in the war on terror along the
Pakistan-Afghanistan
terror. |
