Sonia inaugurates Infosys education centre in Mysore |
Sonia Gandhi, chief of India's ruling Congress Party, today inaugurated a world-class
corporate global education centre of Infosys Technologies in Mysore. The facility
is an extension of the IT major's Global Education Centre (GEC), which was inaugurated
by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in February 2005. Considering its infrastructure
and size of operations, Infosys' Global Education Centre is the largest corporate
education centre in the world. Spread on 337 acres of land, the campus of the
centre has a capacity to educate 14,000 students. After the inauguration, Gandhi
remarked in a lighter vein she wished to be with the students for a few days.
"This visit is giving me the opportunity to bunk my school politics for a few
hours. And after I have done a tour of this campus and admire its beautiful facilities,
the buildings, the environment, the trees, the flowers, I honestly want to say
that I wish I could bunk a few days here with you all," said Sonia Gandhi. Sonia
Gandhi also planted a sapling after inaugurating the global education centre.
Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, Infosys chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy,
and chief executive S Gopalakrishnan were also present in the occasion. |
