India, Bangladesh sign five pacts to strengthen relations

     India and Bangladesh on Monday signed five accords which are aimed at adding a thrust to relations shared between the two neighbour countries. The signing of accords was witnessed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday, the accords are as follows: a. Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal Matters b. Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons c. Agreement on Combating International Terrorism, Organized Crime and Illicit Drug Trafficking d. Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Power Sector e. Cultural Exchange Programme Both the leaders, on this occasion, expressed the desire that Line of Credit and the comprehensive framework of cooperation for development be operationalized at the earliest, said the Joint Statement issued by the two governments on Tuesday. . Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina also extended invitation to the Prime Minister of India and Mrs. Manmohan Singh to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time. Prime Minister Dr. Singh thanked the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and accepted the invitation with great pleasure. The dates for the visit would be decided by mutual consultations through diplomatic channels.
