Cricket fans elated over India becoming top ODI team | Cricket fans in Mumbai have expressed jubilation over India climbing to
number one slot after beating New Zealand by six wickets in Colombo. Indian left-armers
Ashish Nehra and Yuvraj Singh shared six wickets on Friday to reach in tri-series
final against hosts Sri Lanka. After dismissing New Zealand for 155 from 46.3
overs, India reached their target in the 41st over. "New Zealand is not a weak
side at all and wining against it shows we are dominating. The way Nehra started
and picked up initial wickets, it decided the match," said Girish Jawde, coach
of under 16 team, Mumbai cricket association. "India played really well, Sachin
played beautifully in those bad pitches. For the first time since ICC ranking
have started, India has become number one. This team deserves to be number one
and hopefully it remains there for a longer period of time," Soham, a young cricketer
added. India has steered past South Africa to become the top class one day-team.
The win over New Zealand enabled India accumulate 128 ratings points, one more
than South Africa's 127 rating points. To retain the position until ICC officially
announces India's position in the weekly ratings due next week, India must win
two of its scheduled matches against Sri Lanka to be on the top of the charts.
India is playing with Sri Lanka in what is being considered to be a dress rehearsal
for Monday's final. |
