47 killed in suicide bomb attack on volleyball match in NWFP | At least 47 people were killed and several others
wounded on Friday after a suicide bomber blew himself up at a volleyball ground in Shah Hassankhel town of Laki Marwat district in North West Frontier Province in
Pakistan. The suicide bomber was driving into the play ground and blowing himself up, witnesses said. This is the first time a sports ground has been attacked by
terrorists in the country. When the blast took place a match was in progress at the
targeted ground. Laki Marwat DPO Ayub Khan confirmed that 47 people had died
in the deadly suicide attack, The News reports. The DPO said the injured were
shifted to the Laki Marwat District Hospital. According to reports a nearby house
was also collapsed due to the blast. Shah Hassankhel is said to be a hub of militants.
Dawn newspaper said the bombing occurred on a day of protests against violence in
the country. Pakistan’s commercial capital Karachi was shut down to protest a terror
strike that killed 43 people at a religious procession this week. |
