Younis unlikely to join national squad despite team management's SOS | Despite the team management's request to send middle
order batsman Younis Khan to Australia, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is unlikely to give its nod for sending the former captain to join the team during the on-going Test series Down Under. Sources close to the selection committee disclosed the
PCB is yet to refer the team management's request to the selectors and was unlikely
to consider it till Younis comes out of his bad patch, The Dawn reports. Younis
failed to impress the selectors in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy, during which he managed
just 11 runs in two the innings of the final match. Moreover, the selectors do
not want to disturb the middle order, which is already packed with players like
Umar Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq and Faisal Iqbal. Meanwhile, Pakistani media reported
that Younis has agreed to join the squad in Australia for the Test series but
said he will never captain the side again. PCB insiders said that chief selector
Iqbal Qasim called on Younis following the former captain agreed to fly to Australia.
"Younis told the chief selector that he is no longer interested in captaining
the team ever again in future but has no issues about playing under the captaincy
of Mohammad Yousuf in Australia or in future series," sources said. |
