Disrespect for democracy led to Bangladesh's creation: Sharif | Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif has said 'undemocratic attitudes' and a 'disrespect for democracy' were the prime reasons which led to the creation of Bangladesh in 1971. Referring to Pakistan's defeat
in the 1971 war against India, and the subsequent bifurcation of Pakistan , which
led to the formation of Bangladesh, Sharif said there is a need to strengthen
the democracy in the country, and added that the government should abandon its
dictatorial policies and make policies in national interest. "It is necessary
we remain committed to the very basis to strengthen democratic traditions and
establish law and order situation through good governance," The Daily Times quoted
Sharif, as saying. The former Prime Minister stressed on the need of establishing
peace in the country by eliminating extremism from its soil. "We should bring
tolerance in our attitude and respect national sovereignty along with elimination
of extremism.The dream of our forefathers is yet to be fulfilled and we would
have to set up a peaceful society where everyone may get his due share from national
progress," Sharif added. |
