Jharkhand witnesses 58 percent voting in fourth phase | An estimated 58 percent voters exercised their franchise
in the fourth phase of the Jharkhand Assembly election on Saturday. The polling, which began at 7 a.m, passed off peacefully amid tight security till the reports
came in. A total of 26,84,300 electors were eligible to cast their vote to decide
the fate of 233 candidates in 14 constituencies. The number of male electors was
12,58,555, while female electors were 14,25,745. Meanwhile, polling was held in
3465 polling stations, where 5071 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were used.
The voting took place in Bahragora, Ghatsila, Potka, Ichagarh, Majhgaon, Manoharpur,
Chakardharpur, Torpa, Sisai, Gumla, Bishunpur, Simdega, Kolebira and Lohardaga
assembly segments. A total of 156 video cameras and 121 digital cameras were
deployed,
and there were 10 observers appointed by the Election Commission and 263 micro
observers were deployed in polling stations. 165 polling parties were sent by
helicopters. The Election Commission left no stone unturned to ensure smooth polls,
while tight security prevailed in all constituencies participating in the voting
exercise. Counting of votes and declaration of the results will take place on
December 23. |
