India conspiring to tear apart Pakistan: JI chief

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Munawwar Hasan has once again accused India of fanning extremism inside the country, saying it is conspiring to 'tear Pakistan apart.' Addressing a tribal jirga here, Hasan said India is working in tandem with the US and Israel to plot conspiracy against Pakistan. He said India wants to involve other countries in resolving the Kashmir issue, and added that Islamabad would not compromise over the issue under any circumstances. Denouncing the recent suicide attacks in Lahore and Peshawar, Hasan said US drone attacks and the military operation in Swat and South Waziristan were equally condemnable, and urged religious leaders to issue Fatwa against such offensive. Meanwhile, senior JI leader Khurshid Ahmad has severely criticised Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar's statement that the US is using the Jacobabad and Pasni air bases without any official permission from the federal government. While blaming former President General Pervez Musharraf for surrendering Pakistan's sovereignty, Ahmad said the present regime must also be held accountable for violating country's autonomy. "This shameful admission is a confession of the high treason committed by former president Pervez Musharraf by surrendering our sovereignty. He must be held accountable for this act," The Daily Times quoted Ahmed, as saying. "At the same time, it is also negligence on the part of the current government to continue to collaborate with that violation of our sovereignty. The government must be made accountable for this criminal collaboration, and it must come to an end immediately," he added.
