on Monday. Joshi defeated the powerful Lalit Modi of IPL (Indian Premier League) fame in the elections to head the State's cricket apex body. Joshi polled 19 votes
in his favour as against the 13 secured by Modi. B L Gupta, Election Officer of
RCA declared the results of the elections to the various top posts. "C P Joshi
has won the election for the President of Rajasthan Cricket Association and Sanjay
Dixit as Secretary and Mahinder Sharma as Treasurer. C P Joshi has won 19 votes,
Lalit Modi has won 13 votes and Sanjay Dixit has won 19 votes and Rajesh Rathore
has won 14 votes," said B L Gupta. This is the second successive defeat suffered
by the Mumbai-based Modi in his quest to hold an official post over the past six
months. Earlier in March this year, he was defeated by Sanjay Dixit, a career
bureaucrat in the RCA elections which were monitored by a judicial authority.
After his victory, Joshi said that his immediate priority would be to create conducive
environment for the game to progress in Rajasthan. "My first priority will be
to create a conclusive environment so that we have good cricket in Rajasthan,"
said C P Joshi. Reportedly, the elections had taken a violent turn when supporters
of Modi and Joshi got embroiled in a scuffle outside the RCA office premises at
the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. |
