Vested interests don't want peace in Jammu and Kashmir: Farooq Abdullah | Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said that vested interests wanted to derail the peace process in Jammu and Kashmir.
Abdullah's comment came in the wake of the attack on Hurriyat chief Mirwaiz Umer
Farooq's aide Fazl Haque Qureshi on Friday, who was seriously wounded when
unidentified
gunmen fired at him near his house. Addressing the media in Srinagar, Farooq Abdullah
said: "There are some people who don't want peace in this State. They will try
to destroy the peace. Therefore it is the duty of every Kashmiri that they work
towards sustaining peace in their state and should make sure that those mischievous
elements are nor successful." Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir expert A.S. Dulat said
that Mirwaiz and rest of the moderates need proper security, though such attacks
would not affect the peace process in the State. "We have to concentrate more
on security, especially Mirwaiz and the rest of moderates, they need security
and they should receive proper security. But, Fazal Haq Qureshi refused for security,
so this was bound to happen. Such things keep on happening, still I don't think
this will stop the peace process. It will continue," Dulat said. |
