Omar Abdullah awaits Centre's reply on China's objection to road building | Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that he was waiting for the response of the Union Government after Chinese Army's objection to the project of road construction in Ladakh. Addressing the media outside the Parliament House in the national capital, Omar
Abdullah said: "We have brought the information to the knowledge of Union Government.
We are waiting some sort of response from here and once the weather is better,
then we will decide on how to proceed with the matter." The Jammu and Kashmir
Government had to stop construction work of the road in Demchok near the Line
of Actual Control (LAC) after Beijing raised objections to the laying of roads
and other infrastructural development activities in the region. Reportedly, the
eight-kilometre road was being constructed to improve road connectivity and provide
employment to the local residents. Omar Abdullah further reacted to the Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP)'s comments that he was "internationalizing the Kashmir issue".
"I have not termed Kashmir as an (international) issue. I have said that the basic
issue of Kashmir should be resolved. I have not said anything to what the BJP
has not accepted. The BJP has itself made Kashmir an international issue in Agra,
Lahore and at different places. Now, since they are in the opposition, they should
introspect to what they did when they were in power," Omar Abdullah said. |
