Force India test driver Liuzzi replaces Fisichella | Formula One Racing team Force India, which is backed by liquor baron Vijay Mallya, has confirmed
that their Italian test and reserve driver Vitantonio Liuzzi has replaced Giancarlo
Fisichella for the remainder of the season. Liuzzi has been the test and reserve
driver with the team since the start of 2008 and will make his race debut in front
of his home crowd during this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Monza. "I can't
wait to get back into the car in race trim, particularly at my home grand prix
in Monza," The Independent quoted Liuzzi, as saying. "I really appreciate the
opportunity Vijay (Mallya) has given me, particularly now Force India has a great
car that's performing very well," he added. Liuzzi, who last drove in Formula
One in the 2007 season with Toro Rosso, has said that he was confident that he
can carry on the progress of the team. "I'm very motivated, in good shape and
hungry to get some more points on the board," Liuzzi said. "Although it's unfortunate
this came about as a direct result of Felipe's accident, this is my opportunity
to show people what I can do, and I'm really looking forward to it," he added.
Meanwhile, Vijay Mallya has also expressed confidence on Liuzzi and said: "I'm
delighted to give Tonio the opportunity to get back into a race seat, which I
know he has been itching to do for the past two years. "This will be the chance
for Tonio to demonstrate to both the team and the field he has the commitment,
speed and professionalism to perform, and I am sure he will seize this opportunity,"
Mallya said. |
