White paper on railways will be put up before Parliament: Mamata Banerjee | Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has assured that in the upcoming rail budget, a white paper on organizational, operational and financial position of the railways will crop up based on last five years performance. The much-discussed
White Paper on railways is likely to feature in the upcoming session of the parliament.
It will also bring to the fore Railway's monetary position and former Railway
Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav's claim of a turn around in the public sector unit.
The White Paper is almost ready and final touches are being given to it, a railway
official said. Banerjee has also guaranteed to develop vision 2020 with a long
and short-term strategy and an arrangement to achieve the feat. While the former
railway minister had managed Rs 90,000 crore rupees as surplus funds with the
railways, Banerjee declared that an amount of Rs 8,361 crore rupees left, after
an expenditure of Rs 13,600 crore on account of Pay Commission award last year
and a corpus of Rs 2,600 crore rupees left this year. Very recently, Banerjee
had claimed that due to the absence of surplus funds, it would not be possible
to set up an anti-collision device. |
