Letting off Mumbai attack mastermind Saeed atrocious: Chidambaram

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Sunday termed Pakistan ’s decision to let off 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed as “atrocious”. “There is enough and more evidence to continue the investigation against Hafiz Saeed. On the face of this evidence, to let him off, I think, is atrocious,” Chidambaram said. Chidambaram further quashed Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s claims that the evidence provided by Government of India regarding the 26/11 Mumbai attacks probe was insufficient and further movement would depend upon India ’s response. Asked if he would raise the issue with the Obama administration during his upcoming visit to US from Tuesday (September 8), Chidamabaram said: “If there is an opportunity, I will take them through the sixth dossier. It has already been shared with 16 countries, including the US .” “So they know what we have but if there is an opportunity, I will certainly walk them through the dossier to point out that there is enough evidence (against Saeed),” he added. Chidambaram on Saturday, had expressed India ’s utter disappointment over the way the 26/11 Mumbai attacks probe was being handled in Pakistan , and blamed the Pakistan Government for deliberatly holding it up. Chidambaram said the Government of India was thoroughly and totally dissatisfied by Pakistan ’s response. “We are thoroughly and totally dissatisfied by the Pakistan Government. The trial in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks hasn’t opened as yet,” said Chidambaram in an interview to Al-Jazeera channel on Saturday.
