8 killed in Peshawar cattle market suicide blast - India News and Travel Times Provides India-centric and other News and Features

At least eight persons were killed, including a Union Council Mayor, and 24 wounded in a car bomb blast that rocked Peshawar on Sunday morning. The blast took place in a crowded cattle market in Adezai area of Matni. Peshawar ’s District Coordination Officer ( DCO ) Sahibzadah Anis confirmed death of eight persons including Mayor Adizai Abdul Malik . Malik, who was also a leader of a local ‘jirga’, was targeted by extremists on quite a few occasions earlier, however, he had survived all those attempts. All of the injured have been admitted to Lady Reading Hospital , where the condition of nine persons is stated to be critical, The News reports. Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Karim Khan said the blast occurred when a suicide bomber walked into the market and blew himself up killing all the eight persons on the spot.
