Congress set to form Govt in Haryana for a second term |
The Congress Party is all set to retain power
for the second consecutive term in Haryana. It will become the only party to win
two consecutive Assembly elections in 32 years. Although the party is likely to
get less seats than the last time, it is set to win 43 out of the 90 seats. Congress
supporters thronged Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's residence in Rohtak
to celebrate. Hooda's said the poll results do not match the party's expectations.
"We will get a comfortable majority. We were expecting more but are happy with
the kind of result that we are getting. History is going to be written as the
Congress is going to form the government for the second time," Hooda said. He
also said the Congress high command would decide on the name of the candidate
for the chief minister's post. Meanwhile in New Delhi, Agriculture Minister and
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said the Central Government's
policies have helped in the Congress-NCP alliance's good showing in Maharashtra
elections. "The Congress-NCP front is doing well. What we have done particularly,
we are getting extremely good response in rural Maharashtra. Of course in urban
Maharashtra also, we are getting good response. By and large, the farming community
seems to be supporting this front because of the policies, which Dr. Manmohan
Singh's Government has implemented at the national level. The Congress-NCP Government
has executed at the state level seems to be appreciated by the voters. I think
there should not be any problem to form the government," said Pawar. Meanwhile,
Congress Party leaders visited the famous Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai. The
Congress Party is confident of forming government in Maharashtra. "We will form
the government. We are confident that people will vote for the Congress and NCP
alliance," said Manikrao Thakre, Pradesh (State) Congress Committee President,
Maharashtra. The NCP-Congress combine leads in 135 seats of the 288-seat assembly
in the state. |
