Terrorists seizing Pak nukes an "impossible scenario": Musharraf |
Former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf has said that there
is no threat to the country's nuclear assets from terrorists as they were being
tightly guarded by the military. Despite the fact that terrorists have displayed
their might by attacking the Pakistan Army's General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi,
Musharraf claimed that it was impossible for the extremists to fight the military
and establish control over the nuclear armaments. "The only scenario where militants
could access the country's nukes was after defeating the Pakistan Army, and such
a scenario was impossible," The Daily Times quoted Musharraf, as saying. Musharraf
blamed the international community for maintaining 'double standards' while dealing
with India and Pakistan. "It was providing strategic assistance to India in the
field of nuclear technology and at the same time was pressurizing Pakistan over
its nuclear programme," the former general said. Musharraf also claimed that Indian
intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) was fanning insurgency in
Balochistan. Commenting on the Army's objection over the controversial Kerry Lugar
Bill, he said the reservations were 'valid' and 'justified'. |
