Flood situation continues to be grim in Uttar Pradesh

Flood situation remained grim in Uttar Pradesh, as a couple of major rivers continued to swell inundating the regions through which they flow. According to the Central Water Commission (CWC), which is monitoring the situation, River Ghagra continued to play havoc in eastern part of the state and was flowing above the danger mark at Elgin Bridge in Barabanki, Ayodhya and also at Turtipar in Ballia district. In Basti district, people suffered immense losses. "Due to floods, we have suffered huge losses. All our standing crops have been damaged," said Sunil Kumar, a resident. The authorities said the situation is particularly grim in over 12 to 15 villages in Basti district alone. Meanwhile, the district administration said that officials have been assigned to provide necessary aid in the affected areas.
