NEW DELHI: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Monday launched a
three-day water campaign through Ganga from Prayagraj to Varanasi, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency, as part of her electioneering for
the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh.
She began her journey from the Manaiya Ghat in Prayagraj and offered prayers
at Bade Hanuman Mandir nearSangam. "Ganga maiya udaar hai," she said.
The Congress general secretary for eastern Uttar Pradesh, as she began her
drive, offered prayers at Sita Samahit Sthal in Bhadohi.
While talking to the media, she said about the performance of the BJP in the
last five years, "Report card, promotions, all of it sounds good but there's
nothing on the ground, I'm meeting people every day, all the people are in distress."
The boat ride is as well to make a statement that the Ganga cleaning project
close to their heart has been neglected by the BJP leaders.
Priyanka during her drive has been stopping at ghats to interact with people
who live on the riversides to seek their support for the party in the polls.
"River Ganga is a symbol of truth and equality. It is also a symbol of our
Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb (Ganga-Yamuna culture). It does not differentiate among
people. Ganga-ji is the lifeline of Uttar Pradesh and with her support I will
reach you," she wrote in an open letter to the people.
She entered politics in January this year after long speculations.
