KOLKATA: A Vistara aircraft carrying 121 passengers from Chennai to Kolkata
developed engine trouble mid-air and was grounded on arrival at Kolkata on Monday.
The incident took place at 8.56 am, the airline said.
"Our flight UK-733 operating Chennai-Kolkata today experienced a technical
malfunction in the right engine during descent. The pilots carried out the necessary
procedures and proceeded to land safely at the Kolkata international airport,"
the airline said.
The Airbus A320 plane is undergoing inspections and rectification process to
address the issue, the airline said in a statement.
There were 121 passengers on board the Airbus A320 NEO plane, it said.
The incident took place at around 8.56 a.m. during descent and the passengers
were kept apprised of the situation at all times by the flight commander, the
airline said.
IndiGo, GoAir, Air India have been facing technical snags due to the Pratt
& Whitney engine on their A320Neos. Now Vistara is also reportedly facing the
same issue for a year.
Meanwhile, a Spicejet plane had overshot the runway in Mumbai during rain last
week disrupting other flight services. The plane coming from Varanasi had 183
passengers on board, the airline said.
The main runway had to be closed due to heavy rain, low visibility and strong
winds.
