11 disabled children die at State-run rehab centre in Jaipur | April 29, 2016
JAIPUR: Eleven children died at a Government-run home for the disabled in Rajasthan's Jamdoli, 18 km from here, reportedly after drinking contaminated water in the past few days.
The inmates started falling ill on April 18 with symptoms of vomiting and
diarrhoea. They were brought to a hospital in Jaipur. They had some unidentified
infection, doctors said.
Anita Chaudhary, superintendent of the rehabilitation centre, said, "We cannot
speculate until autopsy report of the deceased children is out. We had lost no
time in referring the children to JK Lone and SMS hospitals. The food and water
samples have also been sent for lab testing."
Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje visited the centre on 29 April. The National Human
Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognisance of the matter. The special care
home is funded and governed by the Rajasthan Government's Women and Child
Development Ministry. |
