Rohtak (Haryana): The Jat quota Bill was unanimously passed in the Haryana
Assembly on Tuesday. The Haryana Cabinet had on Wednesday tabled the Bill
which provides for six percent reservation for Jats and four other castes in Class 1
and 2 Government jobs. The Bill also provides for 10 percent reservation for the
five castes in educational institutions and class 3 and 4 Government jobs.
The Jat agitators had threatened that they will resume the agitation demanding
reservation if their demand was not be met by the March 31.
Apart from the Jat Sikhs, Bishnois, Tyagis and Rors will also get reservation.
In Haryana, under the backward classes category there is alreadfy 27 percent
reservation.
The Jats were demanding reservation in the existing backward classes category.
BC-1 category has 16 percent quota and BC-2 category has 11 percent quota.
Earlier, Chief Minister Khattar and Agriculture Minister OP Dhankar had met the
khap leaders and assured them that the Jat reservation Bill would be brought
forward during the Budget session.
A committee headed by Chief Secretary DS Dhesi had gone into reservation issue
and reported to the Government about the possibilities.
