Married couples in UK will be in minority by 2050, claims report | | Married couples in Britain will be in the minority by the year 2050, according to a new report. The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) in the UK found marriage was increasingly the preserve of the middle and upper classes, while only about 50 per cent of new parents on low incomes were married. According to the think tank, by 2050, families headed by married couples will be in the minority, the Telegraph reports. The CSJ criticised the UK government's "failure" to do more to tackle family breakdown, saying it was "deeply dismayed by the lack of progress" since the Coalition was formed in 2010. The report conceded some "promising" moves had been made by ministers to promote family stability, but warned that official efforts were still "dwarfed by the scale and cost of family breakdown". "This Government's lack of a clear and coherent strategy to strengthen UK families not only contrasts starkly with their early and sustained action to reform welfare and education, but also threatens to undermine gains in other vital policy areas," the report said.
