48,000 will die if gun control Act is not passed: Dark Knight shooting witness | A survivor of the mass shooting inside a Colorado movie theater said that in the next four years 48,000 Americans (will) be murdered with guns in the next president’s term if the Gun Control Act is not passed.
Stephen Barton, who is a Syracuse University graduate and happened to be in the theater during the screening of the “Dark Knight”, is making a plea to President Barack Obama and Republican candidate
Mitt Romney to make gun control a top talking point in upcoming debate. “This
past summer in a movie theater in Colorado I was shot,” Barton said in an ad sponsored
by Mayors Against Illegal Guns. “In the next four years, 48,000 Americans (will)
be murdered with guns in the next president’s term,” he said in the ad, which
is timed to the first presidential debate. “So when you watch the presidential
debates, ask yourself: Who has a plan to stop gun violence? Let’s demand a plan,”
the New York Daily News quoted him, as saying.
According to the report, Barton said that he wanted to make the most of his survival. "I can't sit back and be
frustrated by people not caring unless I myself are trying to make them care,"
Barton, 22, said. He has joined the staff of the Mayor Bloomberg-founded group
to promote the ad. He was shot, riddled with 25 shotgun pellets, with one narrowly
missed an artery and another struck near his eye.
