Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has reportedly said that the Arab uprisings only brought chaos and added the rebels groups planning to oust his government cannot win. During an interview in an Egyptian magazine al-Ahram al-Arabi, Assad insisted his government would not fall like that of Muammar Gaddafi in Libya and that dialogue was the 'only solution'. "The armed groups exercise terrorism against the state. They are not popular within society... they will not be victorious in the end," the BBC quoted Assad, as saying. "Both sides of the equation are equal and political dialogue is the only solution," he added. "Violence, however, is not allowed... and the state will not stand with its hands tied in the face of those who bear arms against us," he added. According to the report, Assad stressed that his government would not fall, and change would not come about through foreign intervention or the removal of leaders.
