Al Qaeda calls for attacks on US embassies in Muslim countries | Al Qaeda in Yemen has called for more attacks on American embassies
in Muslim nations, as it praised the killing of the US ambassador in Libya. The
statement, posted on Islamic militant websites, suggested that Al Qaeda was trying
to encourage the wave of angry protests in the Muslim world over a film produced
in the United States denigrating the Prophet Muhammad. According to Fox News,
Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula said the killing of Ambassador Chris Stevens
in an attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was ‘the best example’ for those
attacking embassies. “What has happened is a great event, and these efforts should
come together in one goal, which is to expel the embassies of America from the
lands of the Muslims,” the group said. The statement said that protesters’ aim
should be to ‘expel the embassies of America from the lands of the Muslims’ and
called for protests to continue in Muslim nations and ‘to set the fires blazing
at these embassies’. According to the report, Al Qaeda in Yemen is considered
the most dangerous and active affiliates of the terror network by the US after
it plotted a series of attempted attacks on U.S. territory, including the Christmas
2009 failed bombing of a passenger jet.
