Pakistan releases 48 Indian fishermen as goodwill gesture | The Sindh government has released 48 Indian fishermen from Malir district jail in Karachi. The Pakistan government had ordered the release of 48 prisoners out of 80 Indian inmates, as a goodwill gesture on the eve of the Indian Foreign Minister's visit, reports The Dawn. The prisoners were seen off in two buses for Lahore from where they will be handed over to Indian authorities at Wagah border on Tuesday. The buses were arranged by Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid's Legal Aid organisation. The released Muslim Indian fishermen belong to Indian town Ona in Junagadh district. IG Prisons Mahmood Siddiqui said there remain only 32 Indian prisoners in Malir jail now, and they would also be released soon. Sultan Memon of Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) said 650 Indian fishermen have so far been released by Pakistan, but India has not considered the release of 150 Pakistani fishermen languishing in Indian prisons. |
