Mumbai attack masterminds will never be nailed if left to Pak's 'laid-back' judicial system | Even as Indian Foreign Minister SM Krishna, who is currently on a three-day visit to Pakistan, emphasized that the 26/11 attacks world remain a 'core issue' in improving relations between the two countries, a special counter-terrorism court has once again adjourned the Mumbai terror attack case trial until September 15. As India pushed for a speedy trial of the perpetrators of the Mumbai attack, Rawalpindi's special counter-terrorism court today adjourned the Benazir Bhutto murder and Mumbai attacks cases, citing the lack of prosecution witnesses and lawyer's evidence as reasons for adjournment.
The move echoes the widely held belief that there is little chance of any meaningful action being taken in bringing the 2008 Mumbai attack plotters to justice.
According to the Dawn, during the hearing for Mumbai attacks case, the prosecution witnesses were not presented in court, which resulted in the adjournment.
The trial of the Pakistani suspects involved in terror attacks has stalled due to various issues on many other occasions in the last one year.
Earlier in August, the trial of seven Pakistani men, accused of involvement in Mumbai attacks, was adjourned for three weeks after defence lawyers were unable to attend the hearing.
Lawyers representing the accused were unable to travel from Lahore to Rawalpindi, where the hearing was held behind closed doors at Adiala Jail, because their flight was cancelled. |
