UK resolves to fight Haqqani network as US blacklists militant group | The British government will fight the Haqqani network. But it stopped short of branding the militant group a 'terrorist organisation.' It reacted swiftly after the Obama administration blacklisted the network as a terrorist group.
"We are aware of the U.S.
position and we are looking at the most effective means to disrupt further the Haqqani
network's activities," the Daily Times quoted a Foreign and Commonwealth Office
spokeswoman, as saying.
According to the paper, a London-based defence expert said
both countries were fighting together in Afghanistan, but it seems to be a 'strategy of a good
cop and bad cop'.
The State Department said Hillary Clinton had forwarded a signed
report to Congress, stating that the network met the criteria to be designated a foreign terrorist
organization.
The paper quoted an administration official of the US State Department, as
saying that the move shows the U.S. is 'using everything it can to put the squeeze on these
guys.' |
