Path is harder, but leads to better place: Obama, after accepting nomination

US President Barack Obama has promised better days ahead as he accepted the Democratic Party nomination for President. He said "it would take more hard work to achieve the change". Accepting the nomination for re-election, Obama reinforced the notion that his agenda to rebuild the economy needs only more time to reach success. According to Politico, he slammed Republicans and Mitt Romney, as agents of the far-right, working to further enrich the wealthy at the expense of the middle class. Obama, during the speech, spoke about his first-term achievements and also mentioned the differences between the Democratic and Republican tickets as being “a choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future.” “America, I never said this journey would be easy, and I won’t promise that now,” he said. “Yes, our path is harder – but it leads to a better place. Yes our road is longer – but we travel it together. We draw strength from our victories and we learn from our mistakes, but we keep our eyes fixed on that distant horizon, knowing that Providence is with us, and that we are surely blessed to be citizens of the greatest nation on Earth,” Obama added. According to the report, Obama said choosing him meant believing in a collective good, rather than the individualist pitch the Republicans have framed. “We also believe in something called citizenship – a word at the very heart of our founding, at the very essence of our democracy; the idea that this country only works when we accept certain obligations to one another, and to future generations,” he said. Obama also mocked the Republican tax plan, calling it ‘take two tax cuts’ He bluntly told the crowd that his way may not sound as easy as what the Republicans were offering. According to the report, he told the crowd twice that his path would be ‘harder,’ and called democracy ‘the hard and frustrating, but necessary work of self-government’.
