Pak Taliban collected Rs 3 b since 2008 through extortion | The Pakistani Taliban has collected funds of up to Rs.3 billion since 2008 through extortion, donations and kidnappings from the three major cities - Karachi, Islamabad and Rawalpindi alone. According to investigators, joint investigation teams are grilling as many as 78 militants and front men of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) at three different stations of Islamabad and Karachi, reports The Nation.
"They have recently established their network in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. We have shared intelligence with police of twin cities against them," said an Interior Ministry official.
Earlier on Thursday, a senior police officer from Islamabad police confirmed that the arrest of alleged TTP operatives who used to arrange funds for their organisation through extortion and kidnappings.
"We are interrogating them. They have revealed that the money they raised by kidnapping and extorting is sent to training camps in tribal areas where militants plan terrorist acts," the officer said.
