India thump Kiwis, romp home with 5 wickets | With skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (48) and young Virat Kohli’s (51) unbeaten 96-run stand, India thumped New Zealand with five wickets to win the two-Test series 2-0, here on Monday.
Chasing 261, the Indians were 166 for five at one stage with three wickets falling in quick succession, before Kohli and Dhoni steadied the ship and ensured victory with an entire day to spare.
Dhoni finished the match in style, smashing off spinner Jeetan Patel over mid wicket fence for six, as the Chinnaswamy stadium erupted with joyous scenes.
Dhoni also became the most successful Indian captain by winning 14 Test matches at home, eclipsing Mohammed Azharuddin's record of 13 wins.
