Burma President Thein Sein reshuffles cabinet, to step up reforms | Burmese President Thein Sein has made his biggest cabinet reshuffle since assuming power in March 2011 after the military junta ceded power.
In a statement on his website, Thein Sein said he had changed nine of the 29 cabinet posts.
One of the most prominent hardliners, former Information Minister Kyaw Hsan, is among those who have been moved, the BBC reports.
The new information minister is the more moderate Aung Kyi, who was the military’s negotiator with opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, while she was under house arrest, the report added.
The ministries of information, industry and national planning and economic development are among the ministries that have been affected by the overhaul.
According to the report, rumours about a possible government shake-up have been circulating in the country for months.
Burma ’s parliament and political system had 25 percent of MPs who came from the armed forces, the report said.
