Rajasthan continues to be inundated, more rains in Sikar | Rajasthan continued to receive heavy rainfall
on Saturday, even as the situation across several districts turned grim due to
flooding of residential establishments. Army has been roped in the affected regions
to tackle the flood-like situation following incessant torrential downpour. Rajasthan
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot informed reporters about the relief measures being
conducted across the state. “There is some distress no matter how much relief
is provided, some discrepancies remain. We have handed over some work to the Army
yesterday. They have been allotted to drain out water from colonies. The Army
has been deployed in Sikar too. A special emergency unit have been brought from
Kota to lend a hand in relief work in Sikar and Jaipur. I have been receiving
reports that the relief work has been carried out on time, food packets are being
distributed amidst surveys being conducted in the affected areas,” Gehlot said.
Gehlot added that his state government was on its toes to curb further damage
caused due to rains that have so far claimed many lives and destroyed property.
He also informed about the monetary compensation being provided to the affected.
“I am in touch with all the collectors and the entire administration is working.
They have sanctioned an amount of Rs. 2-2.5 crore so that immediate relief and
compensation can be provided to the victims. The state government has announced
a compensation of Rs. 1.50 lakh for victims of floods, kin of people who died
in related incidents like electrocution, building collapse and drowning. Yesterday
we made an announcement that an additional amount of Rs. 50,000 will be given
to the victims, so a total of Rs. 2 lakh would given to the victims,” he added.
Over the past couple of days, the neighbouring states of Rajasthan and Madhya
Pradesh have registered good rainfall favouring the sowing for the Kharif season.
Rajasthan has, this year, received above normal rainfall in the districts of Sikar,
Churu, Jhunjhunu, Dholpur, Bharatpur and Dausa.
