India has enough evidence on rumour-mongers: Shinde | Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Tuesday
said there is enough evidence on elements using social media networking sites to whip up communal sentiments and create scare among people of northeastern region living across India. Shinde, however, refused to comment in detail on the issue,
saying the whole process is on an investigation mode. "We are working on it. Nobody
knows from where we have got the evidence and we will not disclose it to anybody.
We have got sufficient evidence. The whole process is on an investigation mode,"
he told mediapersons outside Parliament here. Pakistan had earlier rejected India
's assertions that rumours were generated from that country through cellular services,
and asked New Delhi to provide evidence in this regard. Shinde had earlier on
Sunday expressed concern to his Pakistani counterpart Rehman Malik over the issue
of social media-networking sites being misused by elements based in Pakistan to
circulate false pictures and stories to whip up communal sentiments in India .
Shinde, who spoke to Malik over telephone, sought Pakistan 's full cooperation
in checking and neutralizing such elements. Both concluded the discussion by agreeing
to continue the mutual cooperation and to work towards rooting out terrorism in
all its form and manifestation. This was the first direct contact between the
two ministers. Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh had earlier on Monday said that
bulk of hate messages and morphed pictures through several websites from Pakistan
have been denied access and thus blocked by the Government of India. "We have
blocked a number of sites and we have also identified a number of sites, which
were uploaded from Pakistan . The Home Minister had told Mr. Rehman Malik that
he will share it (the details) with him," he said. Singh did not disclose which
organisation is linked. He said that some photographs have names of one or two
organisations. The Union Home Secretary had earlier said that bulk of the rumours
that triggered panic among people of northeastern states in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu
and Maharashtra were sourced from Pakistan . "A total of 76 websites were identified
where morphed images were uploaded and bulk of these were uploaded in Pakistan," he said. |
