BSF personnel exchange sweets with Pakistan Rangers on Eid | To strengthen Indo-Pak camaraderie, Border Security force
(BSF) personnel in Punjab exchanged sweets with the Pakistan Rangers on the occasion of
Eid-ul-Fitr
on Monday. The end of the holy month of Ramadan was declared with the sighting
of moon across India on Sunday. Muslim clergy decides the date of Eid, one of
the biggest and most important festivals in the Islamic calendar. BSF personnel
congregated at the Wagah - Attari Border in Punjab and greeted the Pakistan Rangers
across the border gates. Border Security Force (BSF) commander I.D. Singh said
in Amritsar that he hoped that the bilateral relations between the two countries
would be strengthened. "On the occasion of Eid, we have offered sweets to the
Pakistan Rangers on behalf of Border Security Force (BSF) and have spread the
message of friendship. We hope that we maintain friendly ties and it continues
to strengthen bilateral relations between both the nations," said Singh. Contingents
of the Indian as well as Pakistan armies converged on the border area in a bid
to strengthen ties and celebrate Eid. Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic
lunar calendar, honours the revelation of the 'Holy Koran' to Prophet Muhammad
and has traditionally been a time of religious fervour. It is considered the best
exercise for self-restraint. During the 'Roza' or fasting, Muslims are forbidden
to eat, drink or indulge in any form of pleasure. They eat Sehri - a small pre-dawn
meal, and at dusk they break the day-long fast with the Iftar - the evening meal.
Many countries in the Middle East celebrated Eid on Sunday. Muslims celebrate
Eid wearing new clothes and many go out with their children to parks and amusement
places, spending the whole day out. Balloons and taking swings in beautifully
decorated cradles constitute some of the delights of children on Eid.
