Ramdev calls for revolution if demands not met

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday called for bringing about a revolution if the Central Government failed to meet the demand for an empowered Lokpal Bill, return of black money stashed abroad and to allow the Central Bureau of Investigation to work independently without government control. He disclosed this while addressing a gathering in Ram Lila grounds in New Delhi . “After the time gets over (and the government failed to meet the required demands of bringing back the black money stashed abroad), I would call for a revolution in the entire country and the effect would be seen across the nation,” said Baba Ramdev. Baba Ramdev said that nearly 215 lawmakers had assured him of extending their support in bringing back the black money stashed in the foreign accounts. He said that the ruling Congress party and other major political parties should clear their agenda to tackle the menace of corruption that has engulfed the country. “Apart from UPA (United Progressive Alliance) and NDA (National Democratic Alliance), I have met other political parties as well and of which most of them had extended their support on the issue (of bringing back the black money). It is well known to the countrymen and media persons. I would appeal the parties again that they should come forward and disclose their agendas so that the countrymen must know what the steps are, they are taking on the issue of black money and making changes in the system,” said Baba Ramdev. He stressed that unless each one of us, especially the people from the rural areas do not get connected with the movement, it cannot be successful. “Until and unless even the last person living in the rural areas gets connected with the movement, till then no major change or any revolution will take place in the country, as nearly 60-80 percent people live in rural areas,” added Baba Ramdev. Earlier in the day, Baba Ramdev had threatened to divulge the names of the corrupt politicians in public as he protests during his agitation to bring back the black money stashed in off shore banks. Baba Ramdev had on August 9 announced that he and his followers would go on a three-day fast, seeking the passage of a strong and effective Lokpal (ombudsman) bill, and the steps that need to be taken to bring back the black money, and to free the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from government control. This is Baba Ramdev’s second agitation in New Delhi on the graft issue. In June 2011, he and thousands of his followers had gone on a mass hunger strike in New Delhi to demand reforms, including death penalty for corrupt officials. Dozens were injured when the government sent a phalanx of police with batons and tear gas to break up their peaceful protest. Manmohan Singh and his government have faced severe criticism because of its alleged involvement in various scams such as Telecom scam, misappropriation of funds in staging of Commonwealth Games, manipulations in allotment of flats in Adarsh Housing Society and many others.
