Ramdev announces three-day 'symbolic fast'

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev on Thursday announced a three-day 'symbolic fast' during his agitation against black money and corruption at the Ramlila Maidan here. Addressing his supporters at the Ramlila Maidan here, Ramdev said that he would decide on the future course of action on August 12. Asserting that his fight for Lokpal Bill is not over yet, the yoga guru said the government should pass this bill in the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. Ramdev reiterated that he had no political ambitions, but fighting for the common man. "The government must bring back black money stashed by Indians abroad. The government must pass the Lokpal Bill in this session. Make CBI independent from government control," he said, while listing out some of his demands. Baba Ramdev arrived at the Ramlila Maidan protest venue earlier in the day to a rousing welcome from his supporters. Earlier this morning, Ramdev visited Rajghat and spent a few minutes meditating there. "I am here to pay my respect to the sacrifice made by Mahatama Gandhi. I am paying my respect to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and 7,00,000 other martyrs whose sacrifice has sadly been compromised because of corruption and black money," he said. The second round of Ramdev's protest has witnessed an expansion of his agenda from black money to Lokpal Bill, making CBI independent and a more transparent procedure for appointing Election Commissioners, CAG, CVC and Director CBI. Baba Ramdev's last outing at the Ramlila Maidan, in June last year, saw a midnight police crackdown with authorities claiming that he violated norms agreed upon. He was caught by police, while trying to flee from the protesting venue in a woman's attire.
