Chidambaram promises to table CAG report on coal blocks

     Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday said that CAG report on allocation of coal blocks would be tabled in both the Houses of Parliament. He assured that the report would soon be tabled in both the Houses. "This morning, we have issued notice to both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, to request the speaker and the chairman to fix a date to lay the report on the table of both Houses simultaneously," said Chidambaram. "Once they give us a date, we will lay all three reports. One on coal, one the dial and one on the UMPP Sasan. All three will be laid. There is no delay at all and I want you to make it clear that there has been no delay whatsoever," he added. The Comptroller and Auditor General's report on allocation of coal blocks between 2004 and 2009 without auction is expected to peg the value of 'undue benefits' that the government extended to private entities alone at more than Rs. 1.8 lakh crore. According to the draft CAG report on coal allocation, undue benefits of Rs 15,849 crore to Reliance Power, by way of surplus coal allocation for two of its Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPPs). The draft report pegs benefit to Reliance Power from surplus allocation for the Sasan UMPP at Rs 4,875 crore.
