Geetika Sharma suicide raises diverse reactions in political circles | The suicide of former MDLR airline airhostess, Geetika Sharma, evoked mixed response in political arena on Sunday. Commenting on the news, Harayana's Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on a visit to Kolkata, said appropriate action would be taken once he studies the entire case. Interacting with mediapersons here, he said, “I don't know as I have come here. I have come to know from you people. So appropriate action will
be taken.” Meanwhile, local Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) leader Gyan Chandra
Gupta stated that the suicide by the airhostess was shocking and the Hooda government
had no moral responsibility to remain in power. “The way the Gopal Kanda case
had come forth, I think that the Hooda government and Bhupinder Singh Hooda should
resign on moral grounds,” Gupta said. Leader of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD)
party, Om Prakash Chautala said Kanda must be interned in jail for being the cause
of the suicide. "A case has been registered against him (Gopal Kanda) and he will
surely go behind bars. No more evidence is needed after the suicide note. He had
some allegations against him before also. But this corrupt government did not
heed our advice then. Now there is no other way and he will have to go to jail,”
Chautala said. Women and Child Welfare Minister Krishna Tirath, currently in Ajmer
to visit to the Dargah of Sufi saint Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaz said the law would
take its own course in this case and refused to comment further. “It is a matter
concerning the law and we feel that the law should take its course here,” Tirath
said. The Delhi Police said that Kanda would be summoned after examining available
evidence, while a case for abetment of suicide has been lodged against Gopal Kanda
and Aruna Chadha (mentioned in the suicide note) under Section 306 of the Indian
Penal Code (IPC).
