India yet to receive Pak’s reply on Mumbai attacks evidence | India has not received any communication from Pakistan that suggests evidence provided by New Delhi in the 2008 Mumbai attacks case is not admissible in their
court, Home Secretary R.K. Singh said here on Wednesday. A section of media reported
that Pakistan 's Interior Ministry had formally informed its Indian counterpart
that documents against seven Pakistani suspects, including Lashkar-e-Toiba leader
Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, were turned down by a trail count as defence lawyers were
not allowed to cross-examine Indian officials. Singh said the Indian government
would look into letter, once they receive it, and would consult its legal counsels.
"We have not received a communication. We have requested our High Commissioner
in Pakistan to meet with the Pakistan government and ask them, as to how they
want to proceed. If they have sent us a communication, we will have a look at
it," Singh said. He added that New Delhi would relook into the mater as court
has taken a view. “According to us, according to our counsels, whatever evidence
was collected by the commission has evidential value because statements were recorded
by a magistrate. The magistrate was examined by the commission. But court has
taken a view so we will have to see,” he noted. A Pakistani judicial commission
visited Mumbai in March and quizzed Indian officials, associated with 26/11 investigations.
The suspects have been accused of planning, financing and executing the militant
attacks in Mumbai on November 26, 2008 that killed 166 people. |
